How it's made

Every Siffra garment is made in Dhaka by Silk Fashion & Fabrics and Silk International. Their capacity, audits and certifications stand behind every order, so we publish what goes on inside: the people, the floor, and the schemes held or in progress. Where a scheme is still in progress we say so. Nothing here is a claim until the certificate is on file.

Silk Fashion & Fabrics is our garment factory: a 100% export-oriented knit manufacturer we established in 2023, alongside our fabric mill, Silk International. Siffra is the group's Australian brand. Because we knit the fabric and cut and sew the garment ourselves, we can specify weight, composition and finish rather than choose from a blank catalogue.

Of the 245 people employed on site, 147 are women. Workers are paid at or above the Bangladesh minimum wage, the factory operates under the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006, and freedom of association is respected. There is no child or forced labour.

270 machines across 10 sewing lines: 240 sewing machines and 30 specialised machines, on a 22,000 sq ft production floor within a 130,000 sq ft site.

Certifications and audits

Sedex/SMETA — in progress, not yet certified

In progress

Silk Fashion & Fabrics Ltd

Sedex is a membership platform for sharing ethical-trade data; SMETA is its audit format covering labour standards, health and safety, environment and business ethics. Membership on its own is not a certification. A SMETA audit reports findings; it does not pass or fail a factory. Our factory is a Sedex member; the latest SMETA report and date will be published here once on file.

In-house circular knitting producing around 300 tonnes of knit fabric a month. More than 210 staff, including an on-site doctor and nurse.

Certifications and audits

BCI — in progress, not yet certified

Silk International Ltd

Better Cotton is a mass-balance sourcing scheme: a licensed mill buys Better Cotton volumes, but a given garment cannot be traced to Better Cotton fibre. It covers farming practices, not the mill or factory. Listed by the mill as under process.

GOTS — in progress, not yet certified

In progress

Silk International Ltd

The Global Organic Textile Standard certifies organic fibre content and processing, with social and chemical criteria along the chain. It applies to specific organic product lines, not to a mill's whole output. Listed by the mill as under process.

OCS — in progress, not yet certified

In progress

Silk International Ltd

The Organic Content Standard verifies the amount of organic material in a product through the supply chain. Unlike GOTS it has no chemical or social criteria. Listed by the mill as under process.

GRS — in progress, not yet certified

In progress

Silk International Ltd

The Global Recycled Standard verifies recycled content (at least 20%) plus social, environmental and chemical requirements at each stage. Listed by the mill as under process.

RCS — in progress, not yet certified

In progress
